THERAPY, SUPERVISION, MENTORSHIP, TRAINING

Jeff Roskelley, LICSW

Along with his role as a statewide trainer and consultant with expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) for the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry, Jeff offers services through SOUND LifeRecovery where he supports private clients experiencing a wide range of issues. Jeff also offers clinical supervision, mentorship, and consulting for masters level mental health professionals, psychiatrists & other clinicians, as well as for mental health agencies throughout the United States. His areas of special interest include neurodivergence, substance use, and conditions categorized as severe mental illness, most notably, psychosis.

Regardless of the issues someone brings, Jeff’s approach is compassionate, collaborative, and holistic in considering wider life values. For all neurodiverse clients, he considers the sensory aspects of how their nervous system is modulating environmental input and works with occupational therapy to integrate knowledge of this information into the overall treatment approach. While working with the co-occurring issues of more serious mental illness and substance use, his therapeutic orientation integrates addressing both conditions simultaneously. This integrated approach can lead to better outcomes, as compared to a sequential or parallel approach most often taken to address these issues separately.

Clinical mentees & agencies seek Jeff’s mentorship from across the country. With a wish to foster outcomes toward an experience of greater wellness, he invites his clinical trainees to nurture a genuine connection and sense of safety with their clients. He encourages clinicians to look beyond a diagnosis and the limited scope of symptoms to try to understand a greater whole of their clients’ lives and what’s important to them. His approach to working with co-occurring disorders leads to an appreciation for the functions served by both the use of substances, as well as the functions which the outward expressions of serious mental health conditions may serve, cultivating a more gentle and adaptive view from which to begin therapy and which, ultimately, can shift the stigma that often follows both conditions.

Jeff’s practice & training is rooted in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) and heavily influenced by Polyvagal Theory, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Therapy, harm reduction, and other theoretical models & approaches.

Conditions supported include: anxiety, depression, alcohol & substance use, psychosis, OCD, bipolar disorder, anger, general stress & wellness, challenging life transitions, values identification, and others.

“The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human can alter his life by altering his attitude.”
