We offer multiple avenues for interested clinicians to work with us to deepen their competency.
Join us for individual or group support.

  • It takes time to integrate these skills into daily practice. Many clinicians appreciate extra support as they work to deepen competence over time. We’ve created multiple avenues for learners to do this.

    1) Training:

Through our sister company,SOUND Life Learning, we offer both live and on-demand courses. Our on-demand course, Integrated Recovery Principles for Co-occurring Disorders (IRP) is scheduled to go live in Summer 2025 and has been approved for CEU’s through the NASW Washington State Chapter. In 2026, we plan to have a more extensive training that is open to all and meets the requirement to assist WA State mental health professionals seeking a Co-occurring Disorder Specialist Enhancement through the Washington State Department of Health.

Agencies & other groups are encouraged to contact us to discuss programs to meet their unique training needs.

    2) Individual Supervision:

As a Washington State approved supervisor, Jeff offers a limited number of individual primary and secondary supervision slots for dedicated, individualized support of Washington State associate level clinicians seeking hours for independent or advanced licensure. Sessions are available for clinicians interested in working with substance use, serious mental illness, CBT for Psychosis (CBTp), or developing competence in general CBT or ACT-based approaches for a general population.

Our group supervision is limited to 6 supervisees, allowing more personal interaction and more active engagement than our group consulting, and is offered at a reduced rate.

    Agency sponsored supervision groups welcome.

  • At SOUND Life Recovery, you may hear us refer to primary vs secondary supervision. For our purposes, here is how we define those terms:

Primary supervision: Supervision with a main supervisor ("primary supervisor") who has primary responsibility for the supervision of the associate licensee. Therapy clients are seen under the license and primary supervision of this clinical supervisor. Primary supervisors have final say on all therapy recommendations. Primary supervision may support caseload and treatment plan review, theory and practice, relevant WA State rules & laws, standards of practice, coordination of work with other professionals and parties, relevant professional literature and research, and other therapy related issues. The primary supervisor has final authority if there is not agreement between supervisors in a therapeutic recommendation.

Secondary supervision: Supervision for licensure candidates who already have a primary supervisor in place. Secondary supervision may provide secondary guidance all areas addressed by a primary supervisor. One of the main purposes for choosing secondary supervision with SOUND Life Recovery is to deepen understanding of general CBT, ACT, CBT for Psychosis (CBTp), and an integrated approach to the treatment of co-occurring disorders to further enhance the supervisory experience they receive with their primary supervisor. When acting as a secondary supervisor, SOUND Life Recovery welcomes communication & collaboration to include the primary supervisor at any point for the benefit of the supervisee and their clients.

  • We quite enjoy the process of supervision and feel a strong sense of responsibility and dedication to our supervisees. We’re genuinely honored to be a part of their professional development journey.

And…it’s just plain fun to learn together.

Jeff is a Washington State approved supervisor and has offered supervision both independently and through his work with the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry. Jeff most frequently offers primary supervision to non-agency clinicians and secondary supervision to agency clinicians who already have an on-site primary supervisor in place.

So each individual case of a supervisee can receive the attention it may need, we consider our group supervision to be secondary in nature and require group supervisees to have a primary supervisor in place. This primary supervisor can be an agency or independent supervisor, or individual supervision sessions with us.

We formalize our supervisory relationship with a supervision agreement. In this agreement, we establish shared terms for our arrangement together. That agreement can be read here.

    Slots are limited.

  • Jeff’s approach to therapy orients primarily around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), though other approaches are utilized as appropriate. While not all inclusive, the following list identifies topics and approaches which may be explored in supervision:

  • Great question, and one we hear a lot.

Our healthcare attorneys recommend that clinicians always carry a professional liability insurance policy at the minimum coverage of 1mil/3mil.

This is the case because an employer's insurance will provide coverage for the supervisee only for actions taken "within the scope of their employment." If a claim is made against the supervisee, it is possible that the employer's insurance will contend that the claim does not pertain to activities within the scope of employment, resulting in a denial of coverage. An employer’s insurance is in place to protect the employer first. When it comes to legal defense, what is in the best interests of the employer may be at odds with what is in the best interest of the therapist. An individual professional liability policy will work exclusively in the clinician’s best interests.

All supervisees, primary and secondary, are required to hold a professional liability policy with Jeffery J Roskelley, LICSW and SOUND Life Recovery as additional insured and at limits described in our supervision agreement. This is a requirement because when supervisees work under Jeff’s license, Jeff and SOUND Life Recovery take on legal liability related to the supervisee’s actions and decisions.

  • Supervisees interested in private practice are responsible for all tasks related to building and running their own business. We may, on occasion, refer a potential client to a supervisee, but we don’t assist supervisees in marketing, building their caseload, or other business operations.

We can, however, offer basic guidance to clinicians who wish to establish a private practice in how to do so.
